Description

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national-level medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical courses (MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH) in various medical colleges across India. It serves as the sole entrance examination for several prestigious institutions, including government and private medical colleges, and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI).

The exam is held once a year, typically in May, and is conducted in offline mode (pen-paper based). NEET assesses the knowledge of candidates in subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology) at the higher secondary school level. It follows a multiple-choice question format and is designed to evaluate the candidate's aptitude and academic understanding required for medical education.

Exam Structure:
NEET consists of a single paper with 180 questions, divided into three sections:

  • Physics: 50 questions, each worth 4 marks.
  • Chemistry: 50 questions, each worth 4 marks.
  • Biology (Botany & Zoology): 100 questions, each worth 4 marks.

Each question carries 4 marks for a correct answer and a negative marking of 1 mark for an incorrect answer.

The total duration of the exam is 3 hours. The question paper is available in 11 languages, including English, Hindi, and regional languages like Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, etc.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as subjects.
  • The minimum age limit is 17 years, and the upper age limit for general category candidates is 25 years (for reserved category candidates, the upper limit is 30 years).

Application Fees:
Application fees vary according to category:

  • General/OBC: ₹1,600
  • SC/ST/PwD/Transgender: ₹900
  • NRI/OCI/PIO: ₹3,000

Admission Process:
After qualifying in NEET, candidates can participate in counseling for medical and dental seats in government and private medical colleges. NEET scores are valid for one year, and the candidate must fulfill the specific eligibility requirements set by the respective institutions.
